Port Wing
Reminiscent of a New England fishing village, Port Wing is nestled on the South Shore of Lake Superior. Founded in the 1800's, the town grew quickly due to the logging industry, farming and commercial fishing. The natural harbor in Port Wing was very important to the economy then, as it is today. In the center of town on Hwy 13 is one of the community parks. At the center of the park is a gazebo, made from the bell tower of the old South Shore School. The old school was the first consolidated school district in the State of Wisconsin. An annual Labor Day Weekend Fish Boil is held across from the park followed by the Lion's Fall Festival. Here you'll find a growing arts community and outstanding trout fishing on the Flag River. Port Wing is connected to the County and State trail networks for both snowmobiling ant ATV's. Conveniently located about 45 minutes from the Twin Ports and 20 minutes to Iron River.
